Cradling pilgrims for over a thousand years already, Ulpotha has remained as an oasis of calm in the heart of Sri Lanka. A traditional working village, Ulpotha has been known for its yoga classes and Ayurvedic therapes in a green and environmental manner. Surrounded by a lotus-ringed lake and tiny emerald green paddy fields, this village has been home to Sri Lankans who value the peace and quietude of the surroundings, welcoming guests in its doorstep to acquire inner peace as well.

Ulpotha’s thrusts for sustainable development have found its roots on its responsible tourism and eco-friendly service. Most of the employees in the area are local inhabitants, providing employment and livelihood for their families. Food consumed in the facility is grown on site, including the medicinal plants and trees used for making Ayurvedic medicine. The facility is created in a non-profit generating manner, thus, it gives back its revenues to the community through its clinic, donations to the local hospitals and temples and by creating a fund for the rehabilitation of natural habitats of animals.
