Situated 50 km NE of Middleburg Eastern Cape, Beestekuil provides for an idyllic farmhouse-accommodation facility that typifies the Karoo lifestyle. Historically, the lodging was supposedly occupied by Italian prisoners of war, though this has yet to be verified. Dotted by small flocks of sheep and goats, these livestock are the routine source of the facilities nutritional requirements, coupled with a sampling of the local vegetable garden and fruit trees.

The farm at Beestekuil is sustainable in such a way that it provides for itself – the drinking water if provided from their own boreholes, local domesticated animals are seen around the area, the electricity comes from the solar panels across the facility, thus reducing the oil and gas carbon emissions of the lodge. They have been using renewable natural furnishings and sourcing food from locals in the vicinity. Alongside, Beestekuil offers local employment opportunity as well as training for environmental sustainability.
