Situated in the Namunyak Wildlife Conservation Trust land, the Sarara Camp is owned by the local Samburu people. With a stunning setting of the Sarara River flowing through, flaked by the Matthews Ranges, the vicinity of the camp is known to be a good habitat by elephants, kudus, giraffes, hyenas and buffalos. Also a good birding camp, Sarara is noted to be a great area to sweat out with a challenging mountain walk or even trek the traverses of the surrounding countryside.

Green Comment:

Conservation is a focal point for the Sarara Camp. The camp is completely powered by energy generated by solar panel. Instead of consuming a lot of electricity for refrigeration, the camp employs evaporation from a specially designed charcoal store to keep food items fresh for a long period of time. Recycling is also a habit for the Samburu people. All glass, plastic, tins etc. are taken out of the camp and into the district at the end of the season. Most of the time, wine bottles are cut and used as candleholders. Guests are encouraged to turn off lights but if they forget the staff do so for them when they are not in their tents. The spring water is then filtered to remove impurities and provide drinking water, solar power runs the filter - Reducing need for plastic bottles.

Sarara Camp is located in Nairobi, in the region of Nairobi Area of Kenya . This country, even though it fails to reach thehighest standards of global environmental protection, demonstrated substantial efforts in this domain . Nairobi more precisely is a city whose population is engaged in the defense and protection of its environment. The issue of sustainable tourism is therefore fundamental .
