The Barbados Community College/Hospitality Institute/Hotel PomMarine is a full service hospitality training facility, which comprises both educational and accommodation components. It is the first training institute of its kind in Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean and is geared towards providing training for all categories of workers in the tourism industry. The Hotel is a Green Globe 21 certified. It is based on the Agenda 21 principles for Sustainable Development endorsed by 182 Heads of State at the United Nations Rio De Janeiro Earth Summit. Green Globe 21 works with Travel & Tourism companies and communities to achieve and maintain good environmental and social practice deliver maximum benefit to all interested parties and provide choice for concerned consumers.

The Hotel PomMarine is situated at the former site of the prestigious Marine and Pomeroy Hotels. It took years of hard work and planning, and local architects and builders created the unique design. The PomMarine is ideally situated, allowing guests easy access to shopping, banks, entertainment, a gym, golf, horse racing and squash. Bridgetown, the island's capital city is 10 minutes drive from the hotel, while the airport can be reached in 20 minutes. The goal was to combine the College training programme with a functioning hotel, and staff visited other places to study the operations of hotel schools with training hotels. This fully integrated training complex includes classrooms, kitchens, laboratories, and Resource Centre with library and modern computers. The Institute offers programmes at Certificate, Associate Degree and Degree levels for all categories of workers in the Hospitality Industry, locally, regionally, and internationally.The Institute’s Environmental Management system is being used to promote practical awareness among the constituents of the institute and its community. The bold initiative is a start towards helping the Tourism and Hospitality Industry redefine itself and learn what is necessary to correct environmental challenges.
