Hotel Higgins Landing is an award winning eco resort located on beautiful and sparsely developed Stocking Island, Exuma, considered as a "national treasure" of The Bahamas. The resort is accessed by boat only and is nestled into its pristine sea to lagoon location. On one side of the resort, guests can enjoy the shimmering sands of Silver Palms Beach, with "Higgins Landing Reef" just yards offshore. On the other side of the resort, is Turtle Lagoon. From this shore guests can bonefish or kayak, exploring other adjacent lagoons, "blue holes", underwater caves, mangrove ecosystems, and beaches. The resort is a perfect place for a water sports lover. The resort is spread over several acres and is designated "hotel guests only". At any time there will be a maximum of only 12 guests. Each guest cottage has a spacious private deck and has been carefully sited to maximize views, privacy and ocean breezes. Each cottage is an intimate retreat. The cottages are sited to make the most of their beautiful surroundings and all are just steps from our Silver Palms Beach or Turtle Lagoon. All cottages are naturally air conditioned with a combination of ceiling fans, numerous louvered windows, cool terra cotta tile floors and ocean breezes.

Green Comment:

Hotel Higgins has a miles of beautiful white beaches, gin clear water, near shore reefs teeming with fish, blue holes, underwater caves, rare exotic orchids, living stromatolites; clearly this was a unique and special environment. The place is blessed with bright Bahamian sunshine year round; solar power was the natural choice. Hotel Higgins Landing was the first to apply to the Bahamian government for approval of a photovoltaic solar electric system. The need for fresh water could also be satisfied by nature, and cisterns were built to collect rainfall. Higgins Landing as the best ecotourism resort in the Bahamas and one of the four best in the Caribbean. The resort also has a central dining building outdoor lounge overlooking Elizabeth Harbor and our Silver Palms Beach. In addition there is a "guests only" honor beach bar, a well-stocked library and fitness equipment building. There is also a protected dock area for launching kayaks and docking boats. The landscaped grounds are as colorful as your imagination, attracting many types of wildlife, ranging from herons and hummingbirds to green sea turtles. The island is reached by hotel ferry service from George Town.
